six 23” nested Simax glass tubes tubes (in progress)

unique

This work presents a series of nested glass tubes. Text is sandblasted on the face of each tube. The tubes diminish in diameter as they sit one within the other. On the left side is a literal translation of the viewer’s experience. I CAN SEE RIGHT THROUGH YOU. The right set reverses the act of looking and the subject-object relationship. YOU CAN SEE RIGHT THROUGH ME.

Similar to time changed not you, the self-referential work is fulfilled by the fact that the viewer can literally see through the glass. However, it is meant to operate on a more subtle and emotive level by speaking to interior and exterior ways of knowing. The work speaks to the vulnerability accompanying prolonged illness. Suffering is the great reducer – it strips away all armour to lay bare the pain.
