camouflage 3, 2000

fiberglass resin, aluminum, steel, motor, sensor, fabric, control box
dimensions variable
mechanical design: Colin Harry

camouflage 3 hinges on the hybrid object - the centerpoint of this exhibition is a fiberglass human form clothed in a translucent material that tightly wraps the body then falls like a gown to the floor. Out of the torso rises the neck – a purely mechanical apparatus fabricated out of successive elliptical metal rings and rods. When the viewer approaches the work, the neck slowly begins to extend upwards. Upon reaching its maximum height, a pause, then a trail of smoke. Given the magnitude of the gesture and the imposing nature of the extenuated neck, this small explosion is fairly anticlimactic and ridiculous.
